 2016 Preview 


       Colbert County completed the 2015 season with a 10-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Colbert County made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Piedmont team by the score of 14-0.

       Since 2010, Colbert County has gone a combined 45-29. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Colbert County has gone a combined 227-99. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 3A and 28th in the AHSAA. The Indians have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

       The Indians are led by head coach Dale Jeffreys who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 37-16 over the past four seasons at Colbert County. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jeffreys.

       Coach Jeffreys' overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 151-75 (66.8%). His 151 wins rank 22nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Jeffreys' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seventeen times and won four region championships.

       The Colbert County Indians will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier.

       The Indians enter the 2016 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Indians should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Indians are making another deep run into the playoffs.

       The Indians open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Sheffield on Friday, August 26 at C.T. Manley Stadium. Last year the Sheffield Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 3A region eight. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Rogers by a score of 34-14.

       Colbert County and Sheffield have met a total of 73 times on the football field. The Indians have a 47-23-3 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2015 with Colbert County winning by a score of 49-14.

       Colbert County returns 3A All-State Junior linebacker Chance Bates. He was named to the second team last season.

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
